Jared's piercing black eyes narrowed as he drove down the highway at great speed. He was pissed. He had no particular reason to be pissed other than the mere fact that he was spending another night all alone. He hated the solitude. He was not good with social gatherings. He often said things that disturbed his peers and was awkwardly hinted away. The only company he had was his clan members and they did nothing for him. They were all in their little cliques and none had a real place for him. He was the 'creepy guy'. The one who nobody dared to get to know just because he was quiet. Just because his mind was a little on the morbid side. Jared found it odd that in a clan that would normally be considered evil by most, Jared's pessimism and darkness still seemed to be of distaste to his fellow members. It seemed he didn't really belong anywhere.
Jared had just returned from a mission ordered by Rory, the clan leader. He was instructed to carry out a kidnapping and plant the victim's at a certain location. The young couple were not difficult to capture and Jared was already on his way back to the clan's territory to inform Rory of the mission after he dropped them off. He was rather skilled in this area. He knew just how to lure in his victim's. He could play it so smooth and get away with it every time. He was like a mousetrap. 'Hm. Wonder why I can't manage to make a single friend with all of my deception. I appear likable when I put on my mask of innocence. I can lure people in so easily.' Jared thought to himself, biting his bottom lip, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
Jared was now aware that no other car's accompanied him on the streets. Only a person trudging by. It was dark, but Jared could tell it was a boy who didn't look much younger than him. Was this kid insane? Why would he walk the streets at this time of night, all alone? Didn't he know of the horrible creatures that strolled around at night? The werewolves, the shape shifters, the vampires? A smile traced Jared's face. He could use a snack. Of course, he didn't quite have the heart to openly murder a person who had not wronged him.
Jared slowed the car, observing the boy who was stumbling. He was a weak little target. Jared could easily take him. What would it hurt? Jared sighed heavily. Why did he struggle with this? He liked evil. He enjoyed the horror of victims. He enjoyed torture. He enjoyed all of those sick things....and yet....here he was, denying it. The truth was, Jared enjoyed those things in films or novels. The only way he liked the idea of actually committing the crimes was if it was an act of revenge. Otherwise, he was hopeless.
The next moment, the boy collapsed onto the ground. Jared swerved with surprise, pulling over. Should he help him? It was rather late. Rory would be needing him back. Still, there was a soft spot in Jared and he couldn't allow the kid to just lay there in the pouring rain like that in the dead of night. He'd drop him off at a hotel or something and then he'd head back. Jared hesitated, stepping out of his car and nearing the figure.
Jared drew back with a surprise hiss when he caught the scent. Werewolf! Jared held no prejudice toward them, but he didn't know where the mutt might stand. Jared was about to head back to his car, when he heard the boy's sobs. Damn it. The soft spot. He couldn't leave him here. Werewolf or not. Still, this could be a trick to lure him. This could be an enemy pack member. This was a bad idea.
Jared withdrew his gun, holding it at the ready for safety precaution. "What's wrong?" he asked, letting out a nervous hiss. He wasn't used to interactions with wolves.
"I...I....I..." the blonde boy stammered through his cries. He looked up at Jared with teary blue eyes. Jared looked at him curiously, gun still up. The boy looked frightened now. "Don't shoot! P-Please!" He let out a low whimper like a beaten dog. It lasted an agonizing five seconds. Jared's heart ached at the sound. It set him on edge.
Jared's jaw clenched, his eyes blazing with anxiety. He wasn't sure what to do. The boy looked so innocent, it almost made his heart melt. Of course, deception looked innocent. This guy could just be an excellent actor. "Stop it!"
The wolf sniffled, shaking.
"What the hell are you doing out here?" Jared asked, his social anxiety getting at him already.
"I-I ran away." the boy answered, "and I can't go back. You're a vampire. Are you gonna kill me?"
"I don't know." Jared answered honestly. He wasn't sure. He wish that he owned a detector. A detector for good and bad. Of course, no such detector existed. He would just have to take a chance, wouldn't he? The boy looked so vulnerable. Even if he was bad, Jared could take him. He had more strength and a gun. But what if this boy was stronger than he appeared? What if he had back up?
"P-P-Please don't." The boy whimpered again.
"Stop." Jared insisted, hissing once more with frustration.
"I d-don't wanna die. I'm on such bad terms with everyone I care about." he continued, shaking like a leaf, "and it's raining. I can't die in the rain."
A brief smile crossed Jared's face, but he still held the gun up for protection. "Why are you on bad terms with people? There's gotta be a reason for that."
"Cause I'm ga-"
Jared perked up as the boy drew back his sentence. Gay? Was he going to say he was gay? Jared rarely met any gay guys like himself. At least none who would make contact with him. "Gay?"
The boy hesitated, nodding as the rain soaked him. He looked pitiful. He let out another whimper as Jared stared him down. "Well....so? I mean, gay's are okay." Jared replied after a minute.
"Not according to the pack I'm in." the guy hung his head, shivering.
"I kinda know where you're coming from." Jared said, relaxing a bit. "What's your pack named?"
The boy looked very hesitant. "I'm scared to answer."
Jared pointed the gun closer to him. "You should be scared to not answer."
The boy stammered, "The Atheno pack! Please don't kill us!"
Jared surprised himself by laughing. "The Atheno pack?! Hell, you guys are like the weakest pack ever. You've hardly got anyone after you 'cept maybe the Blue moon clan. Everyone else just see's you guys as a bunch of hillbilly's, to be honest. You're no threat to us."
The boy said nothing, looking down at his shoes, terrified and ashamed.
"I kinda think you guys are wise to stay out of trouble the way you do. Sometimes it's best not to mingle with others and just hide. 'course it makes you look like cowards." Jared continued, he was relaxing more and more by the second. He found it amusing that he posed this little boy as a threat. "I'm Jared. I'll leave out my last name. I know you're probably Jack Grey's little brother, right? Conner or something?"
"Cameron." he said, still frightened.
"Oh. Okay, so do you need a ride?" Jared questioned. It had been his original plan, so why go back on it? The boy shrugged, looking unsure. "How long have you been out here? You look starving. I can take you out to get something to eat and then I'll drop you off anywhere you need." Jared was surprised at his sudden social skills and generosity. But, something about this guy being gay interested him. He wanted to know more.
Cameron looked tempted. "B-But what if you....how do I...?"
"Know you can trust me? You don't. but, I can tell you that the risk is worth it. There are a lot of predator and hunters around here and I think even an Atheno member is smart enough to know that."
Cameron looked briefly offended, but then shrugged it off. "Okay, then."
He shivered and got in the passenger seat of the car. "Did you say food?" Cameron asked timidly.
Jared smirked, "Yeah. Where you wanna go? I don't eat. I drink blood. I was considering drinking you til I found out you were a we-" Jared stopped, seeing the look of horror on Cameron's face. Jard gave him a tight smiled.
"Kidding."
Cameron laughed a little, still shaking. "There's a taco bell around here?"
"Maybe, but I didn't intend to take you anywhere so cheap." Jared felt like a passenger in his own body. He was saying the words, allowing this newfound confidence to flow from his mouth. Why was he being so nice? "There's a la fiesta nearby. I have a vampire friend who works there and he says it's a hit with the humans."
"I love that place. But, we always have to get the cheap kinda food." Cameron replied, "We're kinda poor. Speaking of....I can't accept the la fiesta thing. I love the place, but I can't afford anything that exp-"
"I'm buying." Jared said swiftly, "and let's not play a back and forth game of arguing until I force you to give in."
"But-"
Without thinking, Jared pointed the gun at the wolf again, who let out a yelp of surprise and fear. Jared immediately felt bad. Apparently, his attempt at being charming and humorous was the wrong way to go about it. He lowered the gun. "I'm sorry, Man. I was....I was kidding."
Cameron's breath came out quickly, and he looked nervous as he nodded and forced a chuckle. Jared felt awkward now, gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles were white. He hated the tension and humiliation he felt. Why couldn't he be normal enough to make one friend? They arrived at the la fiesta, entering the place, both drenched by the rain.
"This sucks more than vampires." Cameron moaned, looking down at his dripping jeans. He then looked to Jared who's brows creased slightly as he looked at him. "Sorry. Running joke..."
Jared nodded, rolling his eyes briefly as they found their way to a table. As they slid across from one another in a booth, Jared got a good look at the boy. 'Damn. He's fucking adorable.' Jared couldn't make full blown eye contact with him. He could only achieve that when he was trying to lure in a victim. But, Jared didn't want to deceive this boy by any means. "Now, don't go ordering the cheapest thing on the menu. Get any damn thing you like, ok?"
"O-okay." Cameron said, shyly as he scanned the options listed before him.
Jared observed this immaculate being before him. What he had here was an opportunity. An opportunity to end his days of being alone. This boy captivated him. If he had the chance to lure him into companionship, he would take it. "So...what do you think of vampires?"
Cameron shrugged, "I don't know. I'm kinda on the streets right now 'cause of a vampire."
Jared looked at him curiously.
"I like him. Or...I did. I mean, I don't know how to feel because he hates me and I have no chance." Cameron sighed, "I was really stupid. I kissed him. He rejected me. My Pack got pissed. Especially my brother. It's just hell at my place right now. I don't know where I'm gonna go. I guess I'll try to get in touch with my friend Rolland or Leon, but they don't know I'm a werewolf so that's gonna get complicated. I dunno. I'll look for excuses on the full moon to get away."
Jared raised an eyebrow, biting his bottom lip anxiously. The waiter came over, asking what they wanted to drink. Cameron seemed to notice the waiter wink at Jared when he said, "My usual."
"Is that the friend you mentioned?" Cameron asked.
"Yeah. More like acquaintance. I don't have friends." Jared muttered.
"Oh. I'll be your friend." Cameron offered, with a small grin.
"I doubt you'd want to...." Jared smirked, but his thoughts raced with excitement. He was eager to make a connection with this wolf. He wasn't sure what it was about him, but he was dead set on it now. He had never had such an open opportunity at his feet. He might as well take what was being given to him. Surely, this was a sign.
"Dude, you've already helped me loads. Of course I'd be your friend." Cameron insisted, looking more and more relaxed.
Jared smiled a little, "So, you said you're having problems because of a vampire?"
"Yeah. I guess I was stupid. and I developed a sort of crush on him. He didn't take it well at ALL." Cameron replied, looking down upset. "Neither did my pack and his clan. I dunno why I was so stupid. Thinking it could work."
"I see no reason why a vampire and werewolf can't have a relationship. Of course, it'd have to be kept on the down low. You know, there are clans and packs that don't take kindly to inter-species relationships. It's a shame, but I figure it'll pass in time. Discrimination fades slowly. More and more people become accepting of things like this." Jared assured him.
